1. Concept & Vision: Lapu-Lapuโs “Amazing Race”
In February 2021, I conceptualized and executed “Lumba Sa Isla” (Race in the Island)โthe first-ever ActiveHub Adventure Race.
Conceived as an Amazing Race-style obstacle event adapted for Lapu-Lapu City, the competition took teams across every single barangay on Olango Island. At each checkpoint, participants faced physical, mental, and team-based obstacle challenges before unlocking the route to the next station.
The primary goal of the event was to drive brand awareness for ActiveHub Fitness Center and Smarties Apparel while promoting island tourism, fitness, and community sportsmanship.
2. Design, Video & Marketing Collateral
As the sole creative designer and media director for the event, I was responsible for crafting the entire visual identity and marketing campaign:
Design & Visual Assets:
- Key Visual & Poster Design: Created high-impact promotional posters featuring a neon tribal mask icon set against a dark tropical palm leaves background, utilizing vibrant cyan-to-magenta neon gradients.
- Video Production & Promos: Produced promotional videos and social media teasers to build excitement, explain race rules, and showcase the island’s landscape.
- Participant Kits & Apparel: Designed and manufactured custom race jerseys, participant kits, marshall shirts, and official merchandise directly through Smarties Apparel and Philiprint.
3. On-Site Logistics & Execution: 2 Weeks on Olango Island
Organizing an island-wide adventure race across multiple remote barangays presented complex logistical challenges:
- 2-Week On-Site Setup: I spent two full weeks stationed on Olango Island prior to race day to scout terrain, construct obstacle structures, lay out safety routes, and secure approvals from local barangay officials.
- Station Setup & Marshall Management: Set up physical challenge stations across every barangay on the island and recruited, trained, and deployed a team of course marshalls to manage checkpoints, judge challenge completions, and keep participants safe.
- Government & Institutional Partnerships: Coordinated official partnerships with the City Government of Lapu-Lapu and the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Commission.
- Sponsorship Coordination: Secured corporate backing and product support from brands including Pocari Sweat, Laundry Lab, Maison Ichipan, Namaste Indian & Filipino Restaurant, ActiveWoman, and Active Sports Photography.
